Stainless Steel PVD Process

2020-07-15

Vacuum electroplating color PVD film layer has certain help to improve the corrosion resistance of the substrate surface, but it cannot completely prevent the substrate from being eroded. Therefore, the good corrosion resistance of the substrate itself is the key to maintaining the PVD film for a long time. Since stainless steel material has excellent anti-corrosion performance, electroplating color PVD film layer on the surface of stainless steel is the best choice.

Precautions

All stainless steel products to be vacuum plated with PVD film must be cleaned beforehand.

a. The stainless steel plate is relatively easy to clean due to the uniform surface thickness, as long as the protective film and surface glue and impurities are removed; in addition, some plates are placed too long, and the protective film is deteriorated, which makes it difficult to remove the subsequent surface glue, which affects the surface cleaning.

b. The cleaning and cleaning of stainless steel components are more complicated. In addition to the obvious surfaces to be cleaned, polishing wax, glue, rust, dust, welding are also required in some invisible gaps such as welding, folding, bending, etc. Impurities such as slag are removed with a cleaning agent, otherwise they will easily cause discoloration. For the stainless steel parts to be plated, the biggest cleaning problem comes from the polishing wax, salt, rosin, sand, wood, glue, plastic and other difficult-to-remove substances hidden in stainless steel pipes and invisible places. These substances will seriously affect the quality of vacuum coating, resulting in abnormal color or discoloration. Therefore, during the manufacturing process, stainless steel component manufacturers should try to avoid the above substances hidden in the component and cannot be removed, so as not to affect the quality of subsequent vacuum plating color stainless steel coating.

Matters needing attention

The following items should be noted for stainless steel products coated with color PVD film.

a. Although the vacuum-plated PVD film has a certain corrosion resistance, it is still difficult to resist the contact of strong corrosive substances such as acid and alkali. Therefore, during normal maintenance, try not to use cleaning agents containing strong acids and alkalis or strong decontamination capabilities, such as toilet cleaners, paint removers, metal cleaning agents, etc., you can use industrial alcohol to gently wipe with a soft cotton cloth, if the surface has Dirt should also be treated with weak acid and alkaline solvents. In addition, if exposed to harsh environments for a long time, or in contact with corrosive liquids for a long time, the PVD film layer is also prone to problems such as shedding, such as swimming pools (containing fluorine), seawater (more salt content), high temperature and high humidity (steam) And other environments.

b. Use of anti-fingerprint varnish. More and more customers choose to spray a layer of transparent anti-fingerprint clear oil on stainless steel products coated with color PVD film, the effect is obvious, there is no fingerprint on the hand, easy to clean, and it can increase wear resistance and resistance The function of corrosion is multi-purpose. However, the disadvantages are the inconsistent colors of the sprayed and unsprayed oil, plus the high processing requirements and the low cost, which affects the metal texture of the product and also has the problems of aging. Therefore, it must be carefully considered before use.

c. Subsequent processing problems. Because the PVD film layer has a very good binding force with the substrate, it is not easy to fall off, and the product can be subjected to simple mechanical processing, such as shearing, folding, bending, and cutting. However, welding has a great influence on the PVD film, and the instantaneous high temperature will cause the film to fall off and discolor. Therefore, the stainless steel products that need to be welded should be plated. It is best to complete the component first and then plate the color. PVD cannot be used for plating. The materials of the membrane are processed to make products.

Color deviation problem

The color difference of the vacuum ion plating color PVD film layer is a problem that customers and manufacturers must face and pay attention to at the present stage. Due to the complex and delicate PVD process equipment, there are many parameters that need to be controlled. Each parameter may affect the color, and other factors such as the way of hanging the furnace, product material and surface will also affect the color consistency. In addition, the color of the plated film will be slightly changed due to long-term oxidation in the air; the observer will find that the color will change when the light and angle are different.
